The Marion County Planning Commission consists of fifteen volunteer citizen planners appointed by the Marion County Commission. The Planning Commission meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 P.M. in the J. Harper Meredith Building. All meeting are open to the public. SERVICES PROVIDED Flood Plain Determination and Permitting Prior to all new construction in Marion County, residents are urged to check the flood plain determination for the building site. This requirement also applies to additions that increase the value of the building by 50% (fifty percent). If the proposed building is determined to lie inside the 100 year flood plain, the lowest floor elevation must be raised above the Base Flood Elevation, and Flood Insurance Coverage is required. Building Permits are required within the 100 year flood plain. Salvage Yard Investigation and Permitting Initial application for a new salvage yard is made to the Marion Planning Commission. Upon review of the application and environmental impact statement, the application is forwarded to the West Virginia State Department of Transportation, Highways Division for final approval. |
